Eye on Pop: What accomplishment in your career are you most proud of?
C. Scott: Honestly, I'm proud of everything I've done. My victories are all pretty small ones but each one is earned and worked for. Releasing music and recording always makes me proud of myself. It seems like such a small thing but it takes a lot of work and time for me to release music and get shows. I love it all.
Eye on Pop: How do you stay true to yourself while evolving as an artist?
C. Scott: I stay true by doing a lot of things. Maintaining a job outside of music helps keep me grounded and I think gives me some direction in my day-to-day life, even if sometimes it gets in the way of my music career. I also try to write from different perspectives so that I can empathize with what other people may be going through. I write from my own experiences and I write for others as well. That keeps me grounded for sure.
Eye on Pop: How do you handle a song idea that doesn't fit into your current project?
C. Scott: I have so many songs constantly rolling around in my head and in journals and in voice notes. A lot of them don't fit together as a conceptual album or anything but as of right now I usually ignore that. Maybe it sounds irresponsible but for right now I'll usually try to chuck it onto an album anyway!
Eye on Pop: Are there any hidden messages or easter eggs in your songs that fans might not notice?
C. Scott: Through my entire catalogue of music; silver is a constant theme. I'm not really sure why but it's just a theme in my life as well. Silver is descriptive and mysterious and ancient and it keeps finding its way into my music. Not the metal necessarily but more just the essence of silver.
Eye on Pop: What’s the most challenging aspect of being a song artist?
C. Scott: I think one of the biggest challenges is just finding the time to manage everything. I work a full-time job and music is like a part time job right now. It's such a work of passion though that it's all worth it.
Eye on Pop: How do you use social media to connect with your audience?
C. Scott: Social media is such a helpful tool to reach people. I love posting covers in my own personal style to see if people like it and can connect with it. It's a fun platform to experiment and play around with songs that I love and that I hope other people will enjoy.
Eye on Pop: How do you envision the future of your music evolving?
C. Scott: I'm excited to dig deeper and really find my sound. I feel like I'm hovering around a sound that will feel perfect when I find it and I just haven't quite landed on it yet. The more I write and record the more I think that that sound is going to show itself and I'm really excited for that to happen. It's just going to take consistent writing to find it and I happen to be very excited about that.
Eye on Pop: How do you handle creative differences when collaborating?
C. Scott: I think a big part of handling those differences is to keep an open mind. One needs to understand that if they're working with other musicians, those musicians are usually going to be incredible and have a lot of great things to add. Differences in opinion happen; you just have to accept that you're probably not the smartest guy in the room.
Eye on Pop: If you could master any instrument you don’t already play, what would it be?
C. Scott: Bagpipes, hands down. I've always loved the pipes and I would love to learn how to play. Or the Uilleann pipes. Those are an Irish instrument that uses a bag under your arm to power them rather than blowing into the bag itself. I like the idea that you could still sing and play the Uilleann pipes at the same time. I love those instruments.
Eye on Pop: If you could spend a day with one of your fans, what would you do together?
C. Scott: Man, we could do whatever! I'm a pretty chill person with a lot of hobbies and a lot of interests. If i were to make suggestions though I'd say go for a motorbike ride or play some music or video games. Grab some good food, maybe go to a Rockies game depending on the time of year. A good hike and a beer are never a bad idea either!
