We sat down with Cline Twins to talk about their creative journey, inspirations, and what’s next.
Eye on Pop: How did you get started in music?
Cline Twins: We got started in music because we saw the new Elvis movie with Austin Butler. After seeing that, we were so inspired and moved that we started playing music from the power of seeing that movie.
Eye on Pop: What inspired you to become a musician?
Cline Twins: What inspired us to become musicians was the new Elvis Presley movie. It then led to us being inspired by so much more, like new music, movies, acting & movie scores.
Eye on Pop: Can you tell us a bit about your background and upbringing?
Cline Twins: Our background and upbringing were that we were born in California at two months old. Since then, we have always been around music, music to dance to, watching movies that would inspire us, listening to movie scores, new music, movies, acting, etc.
Eye on Pop: What's your favorite memory related to music?
Cline Twins: There are so many, but one that sticks out as a favourite, is we were performing on tour and we walked out, and the crowd was so loving, they were dancing to the music singing super loud, it was one of the first time we really got the taste of the power of the connection with an audience.
Eye on Pop: What's your biggest passion outside of music?
Cline Twins: Our biggest passion outside of music is watching movies, TV shows & talk shows that inspire us. We love reenacting things, and we love creating and making up our own skits and having a laugh with them.
Eye on Pop: How do you stay motivated and inspired?
Cline Twins: We stay motivated and inspired by listening to music, listening to movie scores, watching movies, etc. We get inspired by all kinds of art, like old-time jazz, old-time Charlie Chaplin movie scores, all the way to new music, hearing new movie scores, and watching new movies.
Eye on Pop: What's your favorite song to play live?
Cline Twins: Our favourite song to play live is our song called “Someone’s Love”. It’s a really fun one to play, it’s our first song we released.
Eye on Pop: What's your creative process like when writing songs?
Cline Twins: That’s the really fun thing about writing songs, it can change every time. One time, you can just be noodling around on your guitar or piano, and you accidentally hit a string or a piano key, and you hear a melody that comes to you, and it can turn into a song. Other times we’re writing together and then start bouncing ideas off each other, and melodies start to come, and then you get an idea of what song you’re going for. It’s different every time, sometimes it can take 20 minutes, a couple of hours, other times you have a melody that you come back to a few days later, a few weeks, months, or longer.
Eye on Pop: Do you have a favorite album or artist that influences your work?
Cline Twins: That’s a really good question, because each song and album has such a unique and different feel, which is amazing about music. There are so many artists and albums that inspire us, but if we were to pick one, it would have to be Bruno Mars and his album Doo-Wops & Hooligans. Such a moving and emotional album, a remarkable artist & performer, and all around the songs he writes can prompt you to feel so much emotion.
Eye on Pop: What's the most challenging part of being a musician?
Cline Twins: The challenging part about it can be writing songs, but that’s also the thing that you do it for, because you know creating a song and bringing forward a new melody is really worth it. It’s the really fun part about it because it keeps you on your toes, and new songs can come out of it because of it being challenging.
