Artist Spotlight: Alexis Arnold

Questions:

Eye On Pop: How did you get started in the music industry?

Alexis: Once I graduated from Saint Joseph University in Philadelphia. I started to pursue music professionally in the music industry. I had my start when I started working with Grammy-nominated producers to enhance my songwriting skills. 

Eye On Pop: Who are your biggest musical influences?

Alexis: I have been musically influenced by many artists. I would have to say my biggest musical inspirations have always been strong vocalists. I specialize in ballads, so I have been inspired by artists such as Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, and James Arthur, to name a few. 

Eye On Pop: What non-musical influences (books, movies, art, etc.) inspire your work?

Alexis: My music is autobiographical so I am inspired by everything in my life. 

Eye On Pop: Is there a particular song or album that has significantly influenced your career?

Alexis: My career started with me singing the song "A Whole New World". That song helped me win my first talent show and started my love for the stage. That song, personally for me, started my journey in music.

Eye On Pop: How do your personal experiences shape your music?

Alexis: My personal life inspires all of my music. 

Eye On Pop: Have your influences changed over the years?

Alexis: I think throughout the years I have just been more open to different genres and being inspired by artists' music of all sounds and genres. I just have a profound respect for music as a whole and think it is so cool to see people express themselves and their individuality in their work. 

Eye On Pop: How do you incorporate your cultural background into your music?

Alexis: My love for music started at the piano. My grandmother was a concert pianist. My grandparents were Cuban, so I have been exposed to all types of music: pop, Spanish albums, English albums. In terms of cultural background. My grandmother was the daughter of Supreme Court Judge Antonio Barreras of Havana, Cuba. I try to incorporate the cultural background by having articles of clothing or fashion inspired by my grandmother and her Cuban roots in my music videos or cover artwork. She had a profound impact on my love for music and really introduced me to the world of music. I try to honor her through all my music projects. 

Eye On Pop: What role does nature or your environment play in your songwriting?

Alexis: Environment is important in the songwriting process for me. I usually prefer to write in a quiet space that allows me to deeply think and feel what I am writing. 

Eye On Pop: When did you first realize you wanted to be a musician?

Alexis:  I have been singing my entire life since I was 13 years old. I have always loved music. I don't think there was a certain age when I knew I wanted to be a musician. I think growing as a person and as a musician are one and the same, and it naturally evolved throughout my life. Music is something I have always loved. It has had such a huge impact on my life; it has led me all over the world, and I think I just naturally evolved into it, going into the music industry.
