Artist Spotlight: skyve

The new single “eternal time,” by Texas songwriter Skyve, begins quickly with upbeat drums that never let up. But the lightness conceals a melancholy sadness, unmistakable in twisting melodies of an electric guitar.

We sat down with skyve to talk about their creative journey, inspirations, and what’s next.

Eye On Pop: What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?

skyve: Some of the time I play video games and just go on walks, but if it were a realistic option, I'd spend more time with my friends and close circle. Hanging out with my closest friends is always the best.

Eye On Pop: How do you stay motivated and inspired in your daily life?

skyve: Truth is, I'm not always motivated, but I can usually just remind myself why I create music in the first place, and that helps me to get going.

Eye On Pop: How do you balance your personal life with your music career?

skyve: I feel like they're both combined pretty well. Music is a huge part of my everyday life - it's most of what I think about during the day. Even when it gets busy, I still leave a lot of time for myself, especially because my art gets sloppy when I don't focus on myself enough.

Eye On Pop: How do you stay grounded amidst the pressures of fame and success?

skyve: I remind myself that I'm doing it for me, which is the truth. The fame and money would be nice, but I see it as a bonus - I just love to create.

Eye On Pop: What’s your favorite way to unwind after a long day of recording or performing?

skyve: Take a warm shower, get some dinner, and call some friends and play Splatoon 3.

Eye On Pop: How do you stay true to yourself while evolving as an artist?

skyve: My dad always said, “If you aren't growing, you're dying", and that's really stuck with me. Any evolution I have is just a better version of me, and I stay true to myself by... evolving.

Eye On Pop: What’s your philosophy on failure and success?

skyve: I think both are necessary. You need failure to feel what it's like to have bad days, but you also need to feel success and reach your goals to give yourself motivation. It's really hard to keep at something if you don't get at least a little taste of being successful at it.

Eye On Pop: How do you define happiness and fulfillment in your life and career?

skyve: I'm not completely sure yet. I think being able to know what will truly fulfill me is something I'll learn as I get older, but for now, making the music and seeing people listen to it is what makes me happy.

Eye On Pop: What drives you to keep creating music even during challenging times?

skyve: I just can't imagine myself doing anything other than making music as a career. I am fairly confident that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life, and I will continue to pursue it, even when the going gets hard. It's a part of me.

Eye On Pop: How do you define success in your personal and professional life?

skyve: Finding what fulfills you and chasing it. Not everyone gets lucky and is able to know what they want to do with their lives at such a young age, and I'm blessed because of it.
