Slash featuring Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators have announced a new album, ‘Flying Blind’, along with world tour dates for 2027. Find all the details below.
The band, aka SMKC, are due to release the 12-track record on February 26 via Gibson, following on from 2022’s ‘4’. You can pre-order/pre-save here.
Arriving today (Friday October 2), the anthemic title track ushers in a powerful new era for the rock collaborators. The full LP was largely recorded live with longtime producer Michael ‘Elvis’ Baskette at Studio Barbarosa in Florida.
It captures the Guns N’ Roses icon on guitar and pedal steel, Kennedy on vocals, Todd Kerns on bass, Brent Fitz on drums, and Frank Sidoris on rhythm guitar “at their most immediate, instinctive and tightly connected”, per a description.
The band completed the bulk of the full-length project in approximately one week, often recording two songs a day with the musicians performing together in the same room.
“It’s a really fun, kind of spontaneous rock ’n’ roll record,” Slash explained. “It’s very straightforward and down-to-earth and raw.”
Speaking about making the soaring title track, Slash said: “Created in the studio while we were standing there in pre-production, a riff came to me and started developing. I had nothing of that song prior to those guys coming in, and then we started up a night of rehearsal and played that riff. It came together really quickly.”
He continued: “As for it being the first single, you never know what the first single is going to be until you’ve recorded it. When I started thinking about it, ‘Flying Blind’ just seemed to have the right kind of melodic sensibilities and a hook to make it single material.”
Kennedy added: “I really enjoyed putting a melody to this song. The way the chord progression starts in the beginning had a nice flow to it. The lyric is about how sometimes people try to take shortcuts and try to find the easy way to achieve happiness or enlightenment.”
He hailed Slash as “an incredible riff writer” who “comes up with simple chord progressions that are very compelling for melodies”, adding: “It works, and it’s timeless.”
The official music video for the ‘Flying Blind’ single was shot on location at the legendary Viper Room in Los Angeles, and directed by John Harvatine IV.
