Artist Spotlight: The 510 Dro
The 510 Dro (pronounced “five-one-oh”) is an artist that prides himself on his musical range, abilities and interests. With a love for music of all kinds, his music blends genres with ease. His track “Oh” is a unique, upbeat song that invites listeners to dance, sing along, and have a good time.
In this conversation, The 510 Dro dives into the memories that shaped their voice, and the vision shaping their future.
The 510 Dro: First, I’d like to say thank you for interviewing me!
Eye On Pop: What legacy do you hope to leave with your music?
The 510 Dro: I want to give my listeners a variety of emotions to experience while creating lasting memories. Like all of us, I’ll be forgotten someday, but I want whatever I create to mean something to those who enjoy it now.
Eye on Pop: What’s the most significant change you’ve seen in yourself since starting your music career?
The 510 Dro: I’m definitely a better listener. Musically, I can hear pitch much more accurately, and conversationally, I can understand people more clearly. Listening really makes you a stronger communicator.
Eye On Pop: How do you deal with self-doubt or moments of insecurity?
The 510 Dro: I like to take a step back and let everything settle. If something feels off or not right, I don’t want to be a masochist and linger in that feeling; I want to give my mind clarity by stepping away.
Eye On Pop: What’s one piece of advice you wish you could give your younger self?
The 510 Dro: I really can’t say. Everything I’ve done, from my youth until now, has led me to where I am today. I’m not one to look back when I literally can’t change my past, but if I were to give advice to the youth today, it would be to stay true to yourself and try your best.
Eye On Pop: What comes first for you: the music or the lyrics?
The 510 Dro: My process usually starts with making the music. Somehow, the lyrics come to me naturally, and I like to feel the music before adding that extra layer of words.
Eye On Pop: How do you know when a song is truly finished?
The 510 Dro: There’s that initial “A ha!” moment when everything feels right (after the final touches in the mix are made). After that, I listen a few more times, go to sleep, and then listen again the next day. Finally, I bring it to my engineer, record the vocals, and when the mastering is complete, that’s when I know it’s done.
Eye On Pop: How does your latest project reflect your growth as an artist?
The 510 Dro: I’m starting to develop a style that’s truly my own. My song, “Oh,” is really something I haven’t heard from other artists, and despite its unique sound, it’s also fun and familiar. Like many artists, I had to make a lot of songs before I was able to create something meaningful.
Eye On Pop: What’s the significance of the title of your latest project?
The 510 Dro: The simple name, “Oh” is tongue-in-cheek. There’s a lot going on in my song, and I wanted to downplay the sense of “epicness” I was going for.
Eye On Pop: How do you choose which opportunities to pursue and which to pass on?
The 510 Dro: Generally, in everything I do, I start with my gut feeling. Then I meticulously and calmly go through all the details to decide whether I want to move forward. It’s a combination of feeling and fact.
Eye On Pop: What personal qualities do you think are most important for a musician to have?
The 510 Dro: Above all, a musician needs to be authentic. Music is meant to be felt by listeners, and what you put out is what they’re gonna feel, no matter what. In 2025, listeners have been conditioned to intuitively know what a good mix is, what a good master is, and they feel the real emotion that goes into the songs they listen to. Being true to yourself is the realest luxury a musician can have and sharing that truth is the real gift.
