Dua Lipa has reportedly filed a $15 million lawsuit against Samsung, accusing the electronics giant of using her image on television packaging without permission. According to a complaint obtained by Rolling Stone, the singer’s legal team officially filed the case in a California district court on Friday.
The lawsuit claims Samsung unlawfully used Dua Lipa’s likeness on cardboard boxes for televisions connected to Samsung TV Plus. “Ms. Lipa brings this action against Samsung for copyright infringement, trademark infringement, and violation of her right of publicity in order to obtain redress for the massive, continuing, unauthorized commercial exploitation of her valuable image and likeness by Samsung on cardboard television boxes,” the filing states.
Although Dua Lipa has previously partnered with luxury brands including Porsche, Apple, Chanel, and Tiffany & Co., the lawsuit makes clear that she never entered into any promotional agreement with Samsung. Despite that, the company allegedly featured a photo of the singer on television boxes to advertise the Xite Hits channel available through Samsung TV Plus.
The complaint says Samsung knowingly used a copyrighted image of Dua Lipa without securing authorization or licensing rights. “Recognizing Ms. Lipa’s notoriety and goodwill, Samsung used a copyrighted image of Ms. Lipa without authority or license and prominently featured it on the front of cardboard boxes containing Samsung manufactured televisions for retail sale,” the lawsuit claims.
According to the filing, the image was originally taken backstage before Dua Lipa’s performance at the 2024 Austin City Limits Festival. Her legal team argues that the photo carries significant commercial value tied to her brand, image, and trademark rights.
The lawsuit also states that Dua Lipa first became aware of the packaging in June 2025, after fans began posting about the so called “Dua Lipa TV Box” online. The complaint references several social media reactions, including one fan joking that they would “get that tv just because Dua is on it,” while another commented, “if you need anything selling just put a picture of Dua Lipa on it.”
Lipa’s attorneys accuse Samsung of intentionally profiting from her fame by distributing and selling televisions nationwide using the packaging. The filing alleges the company “mass manufactured, distributed, marketed, and sold” televisions featuring the image, calling the move “willful copyright and trademark infringement” as well as a violation of her publicity rights.
The legal team further claims Samsung ignored repeated requests to stop using the image. The complaint describes the company’s response as “dismissive and callous,” arguing that Samsung knowingly continued exploiting Dua Lipa’s identity to boost product sales while creating a misleading association between the singer and the brand.
As a result, Dua Lipa is seeking damages of no less than $15 million for alleged copyright infringement, trademark infringement, and unauthorized use of her image and likeness.
