Shania Twain has shared how she and her husband work through disagreements in their marriage.
The 60-year-old musician believes that open conversations have helped her and Frederic Thiebaud overcome challenges throughout their 15 years together.
"He's really good at reminding both of us that we have to keep communication open," she explained to People magazine. "He's the greatest talker, and he's not inhibited at all with expressing his feelings, which is really wonderful in a man. If you have a man that is really open and wants to keep the communication open, you're blessed as a woman."
Twain acknowledged that her husband’s desire to discuss problems is different from her own approach, as she would prefer to "take a walk or be alone with my guitar."
She continued, "Fred wants to talk about it. He wants to talk it through, and he wants to fix it. And that's the best advice. I mean, he's not wrong."
The pair exchanged vows in 2011. Twain was previously married to music producer Robert "Mutt" Lange between 1993 and 2008. Lange was accused of having an affair with Thiébaud’s former wife, Marie Anne, who had been one of Twain’s close friends. Twain and Thiébaud later became romantically involved following the end of their respective marriages.
Looking back on their shared experiences, she said they had "deep scars in common. We were a big part of each other's healing," before describing him as the true love of her life.
"And if I (had) met Fred as a teenager, I do believe that he would have been my lifelong love even from then. It just takes sometimes years to find that person," she shared.
