In a forthcoming podcast appearance, Nicki Minaj reflects on her recent move toward more visible involvement in conservative politics, explaining that it was not Donald Trump’s policy positions but how he has “been treated” in the public eye that led her to openly support him.
In teaser clips the rapper reshared on X on Monday February 2, she responds to questions from podcaster Katie Miller, whose full conversation with Minaj is set to be released on Tuesday. Discussing why politics feels important to her right now, Minaj was asked which positions of the twice impeached president most influenced her, from immigration to “religious freedom.” She replied, “Religious freedom is something that’s very important to me, but if I’m being honest, President Trump … when I saw how he was being treated, over and over and over, I just couldn’t handle it.”
“I felt that a lot of that bullying and the smear campaigns and all of the lying, I felt that that had been done to me for so many years,” she went on to say. “And I was watching it in real time happen to someone else, and I didn’t think he deserved it.”
In a separate video also shared on X, Minaj expands on the moment she began paying closer attention to Trump’s political journey. “During the last [presidential] campaign … I saw something, and I texted someone I knew right away, and I said, ‘This is a mistake.’ And I also said, ‘All of this is making me want to get into politics,’” she told Miller, declining to specify what she had witnessed.
She then hinted at a more recent turning point. “And then there was something that happened a few months ago that, if I wasn’t going to do it before,” she said, before stopping short of elaborating and adding when pressed, “I don’t want to talk about it.”
“I will say, sometimes people can push you so much, that they push you all the way into your next calling,” Minaj added with a knowing smile. “That’s what happened with me.”
Alongside the clip, the Queens rapper wrote, “You guys are going to love this interview, Barbz. Here’s a sneak peek.”
The uncommon podcast appearance follows Minaj’s recent public showing with the POTUS at his Trump Accounts Summit, where the pair shared a hug behind the lectern and she proclaimed, “I am probably the president’s No. 1 fan.” Soon after, Minaj revealed on X that Trump had granted her a Trump Gold Card, which according to its website requires a one million dollar contribution along with a fifteen thousand dollar processing fee. The Gold Card is also described as a “visa based upon an individual’s ability to provide a substantial benefit to the United States,” potentially speeding up the Trinidad born artist’s path to U.S. citizenship.
Both Minaj and Trump later expressed frustration with the Grammys broadcast that aired on Sunday February 1, during which host Trevor Noah mocked their newfound alliance. Mimicking the former president, the comedian imagined a conversation between the two that went something like, “Actually, Nicki, I have the biggest a–! I have it. Everybody’s saying it, Nicki. I know they say it’s you, but it’s me! WAP WAP WAP.”
Minaj responded afterward with a string of furious posts on X, while Trump wrote on Truth Social, “The Grammy Awards are the WORST, virtually unwatchable! CBS is lucky not to have this garbage litter their airwaves any longer.”
