Taylor Swift made an unexpected appearance with her friend Mariska Hargitay in a pre recorded sketch shown during Monday’s 2026 Emmy Awards.

The clip spoofed Hargitay’s long running television series, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (SVU), with the Emmys host returning as Captain Olivia Benson to investigate the question, “Will Taylor Swift be at the Emmys?”

Benson reveals two corkboards covered in evidence, while her team, including Ice T as Sgt. Odafin ‘Fin’ Tutuola, attempts to uncover links between Swift and several Emmy nominees.

The music star then enters dressed as a detective and holding a coffee as she studies the boards before declaring, “I don't think everything is a clue.”

Hargitay’s Benson replies, “It is to the Swifties,” before Swift’s detective character mysteriously adds, “I think what we're looking for is going to be hiding in plain sight.”

Facing the camera, she delivers four apparently unrelated statements: “Saccharide. Aries. From the Vineyard. North or South,” immediately encouraging fans to search for a hidden message.

Swift’s character later notes that the awards she had been nominated for were handed out at the Creative Arts Emmys the previous week, meaning she had no reason to appear at the Primetime Emmys.

“Why would she be showing up to this ceremony tonight? She's probably going to be sitting at home with those cats she's named after TV show characters?” she asks while holding her cat, Olivia Benson, beneath her arm.

The investigators finally decide that the Shake It Off singer would miss the Emmys because her husband, Travis Kelce, had “a work thing,” referring to his opening game of the new American football season.

“Maybe she's going to do one of those cool pre-taped sketch things to support the host?” Swift jokes.

Hargitay, Swift and the singer’s cat then stare into the camera together before the sketch moves to its closing credits.

Swift did skip the Emmys and instead attended the Kansas City Chiefs’ season opener to support Kelce. She was seen alongside Tom Cruise at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
