Jason Derulo may be known for his provocative lyrics, but on stage he keeps things under control, even when he slips. The R and B pop performer went down during his set at Capital’s Summertime Ball in London on Saturday (June 6), yet he managed to bounce back smoothly like a seasoned professional.
In videos spreading online after the weekend show, Derulo’s feet suddenly slipped out from under him, sending him forward off a raised platform on the Wembley Stadium stage. Even with the force of the movement, he likely could have been hurt, but he reacted quickly and used his hands on the platform behind him to stop the fall before settling into a crouched position.
After a brief pause to collect himself and giving a lighthearted smile toward fans in the crowd, Derulo, who has earned two Billboard Hot 100 number one hits with 2009’s “Watcha Say” and 2020’s “Savage Love (Laxed Siren Beat)” with Jawsh, got back up and continued the performance without interruption.
Later on, he shared a fan recorded clip of the moment on TikTok and joked in the comments, “How I fall for you every time.”
He might have been referring to the viral internet rumor from years ago claiming he fell down the Met Gala stairs in 2015. Although that story was proven false and the image behind it actually showed a different person falling at the Cannes Film Festival years earlier, the meme still circulates online nearly every Met Gala season.
Derulo was among the major performers at this year’s Capital event in London. His appearance came between sets from Niall Horan, Robyn, RAYE, Lola Young, Sienna Spiro, Calvin Harris and other artists.
Derulo released his EP The Last Dance (Part 1) in January.
