Singer-songwriter Cam Ezell returns with “Game of Roulette,” a brooding, mid-tempo track that explores the psychological gamble of intimacy—where control, desire, and emotional risk quietly collide. The track is energetic enough for a long drive, yet contemplative enough for quiet weekend reflection.
“This song is a culmination of many different experiences and relationships,” shares Ezell. “So much of modern dating feels like stepping into a casino. You have these high-stakes moments where you feel like you’ve won it all, followed by the ‘cold streak’ where the house takes it back.”
Sonically, “Game of Roulette” leans into big, funky textures that give a subtle nod to the spectacle of Las Vegas. Listeners will experience that sense of flash and chance in both the instrumentation and the lyrics. The production balances groove with restraint, mirroring the push and pull at the heart of the song: the thrill of the bet, the risk of staying in the game, and the tension between control and chaos.
“I love the beauty of Vegas, the big scenes and big shows,” beams Ezell. “So when I was writing down the lyrics, I was pulling on elements from Vegas—the casinos, the gaming—and shaping those influences into bold, funky arrangements.”
As with his other projects, production on “Game of Roulette” began with Ezell’s lyrics and a raw melody, plunked out on the piano before meeting with his producer, Mykyta Honchar. “I bring a basic frame for the lyrics and a raw melody that comes to mind,” Ezell explains. Together, they expand on the initial ideas—adding instrumentation, refining the melody, and trading ideas over several weeks—before Ezell heads into the studio to record vocals.
“Game of Roulette” is set to release on January 2nd, kicking off a series of monthly singles as Ezell refines his sound as an artist. His sophomore release follows his debut single, ‘Cosmic Girl,’ which came out about a month ago. Having recently embarked on his solo journey after fronting a Miami-based Latin pop/rock band, he’s now focused on writing and releasing original music that reflects his dynamic vocals and cross-genre style, expanding his artistic footprint with a sound that reflects his diverse performance background.
“I’d love to explore music videos down the road, but right now my focus is on putting out quality beats, strong lyrics, and well-produced songs, especially considering the time it takes to craft each one,” shares Ezell. “I’m hoping to have an EP or a small album finished by the end of the year.”
Ezell’s journey as a solo artist began after moving from Miami to Washington, D.C., about a year ago. Born and raised in Chicago, he first performed in intimate, cabaret-style venues before exploring Latin pop and funk in Miami, and is now charting his own path, experimenting with sounds and styles that reflect his evolving artistic vision.
“I’ve always loved entertaining and bringing people joy,” Ezell shares. “Whether it was jazz in Chicago or Latin pop in Miami, the form of entertainment has changed, but my love for it hasn’t. Now, as a solo artist, it’s a big deal for me to finally turn my lyrics into melodies, and I hope to create a real emotional connection with listeners through my music.”
Ezell has been writing music for the past five years, drawing on a range of personal and artistic experiences. “I’ve always enjoyed writing, whether it’s been poetry or music,” he explains. “I love mixing unique, funky instruments—some of the Latin fusion I got to know in Miami—with danceable, pop-infused R&B vibes. ‘Game of Roulette’ leans more toward pop and R&B, but as I release a new song each month, I plan to explore lighter Motown and retro influences, all within that pop-R&B space.”
While there are no scheduled performances tied to his latest release, Ezell remains an active performer in the D.C. and Chicago circuits; fans will want to stay tuned to his social channels, as he may bring some of his newest work to the stage. Looking ahead, he’s already planning a February release timed for Valentine’s Day titled “Insatiable Man”—continuing his monthly release schedule and further expanding his solo catalog.
“Game of Roulette” is now available on all streaming platforms, with promotional support from Starlight PR.
