Lil Nas X’s attorney has said the performer is “doing amazing” after spending time in a treatment facility following his arrest on alleged battery charges in August.
The Old Town Road star, born Montero Hill, appeared in a California courtroom on Monday, facing three counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer. He has already entered a not guilty plea to all of the accusations.
Rolling Stone reported that the 26 year old arrived at the hearing smiling, although he did not speak during the short session. The judge approved a protective order relating to the exchange of evidence in the case and scheduled the next hearing for 12 March.
As he exited the courthouse, his defence lawyer told members of the press, “As you can see, Montero is doing amazing, doing great, and we're super happy for him... We're just looking forward to a positive resolution in this case, which we're very confident of.”
The Industry Baby performer was taken into custody early on 21 August after officers said he was seen “strolling naked” on Ventura Boulevard in Los Angeles. Prosecutors claim he struck officers who attempted to detain him and injured three of them.
Hill was first taken to a nearby hospital due to concerns about a possible overdose before he was later booked into jail.
After spending the weekend in custody, the artist shared a message with fans on social media, saying, “That was f**king terrifying. That was terrifying. That was a terrifying last four days. But your girl is gonna be all right.”
At a hearing in September, his legal team disclosed that he was “in treatment” at a facility outside California, though the judge ordered the details of his care to be kept sealed.
“We're doing what is best for Montero from a personal standpoint and a professional standpoint, but most importantly, for his well-being,” Findling said at the time. “We're just addressing those issues. It's really as simple as that. He's had a great life, and he'll continue to have a great life. This is a bump that he's going to get over.”
