Zara Larsson has spoken warmly about the sense of unity among today’s pop stars, saying the so called pop girlies are “very supportive and loving.”
The Ain't My Fault singer, who has worked with artists including PinkPantheress and Muni Long and has toured alongside Tate McRae, opened up about the bond she feels with other women in pop. She acknowledged the industry’s competitive edge but said there is a real feeling of encouragement away from the spotlight.
She told People: “It’s so important.
“It’s an industry that feels very competitive. But I think behind the stage and behind the scenes, everyone’s very supportive and loving.”
Looking back on her own journey, she continued: “I really feel like there’s this warmth amongst the girls, at least what I’ve experienced. It’s so exciting to have been working with amazing pop girls, and I look forward to doing more of that.”
The Can’t Tame Her artist said collaborations have been one of the most rewarding parts of her career so far, though she hopes to team up with even more women in the future.
She said: “I’ve collaborated with some incredible artists, but I wanna do more with the girls."
Zara recently appeared on PinkPantheress’ remix of Stateside, which features on the Fancy Some More? album.
Speaking highly of the Just for Me singer, she said: “I love her. I think she’s so cute and very, very, very talented. She’s unapologetically herself, which I love, and she’s doing things her own way. She’s also very smart and funny.”
Explaining how their collaboration came together, she shared: “I actually DM’ed her two days before she asked me to jump on the remix, like, ‘Queen.’ I think that’s all I said. She was like, ‘Hey queen.’ I just went, ‘I love you.’ I wanted to show some love. I was on a love spree. I just DM’ed a bunch of pop girlies, like, ‘Queen.’ I just want to appreciate all the girls who are killing it.”
Zara’s comments about mutual support among female pop stars follow her recent admission that she found it “strange” to see fans comparing her to Tate McRae.
The Swedish singer joined the Sports Car hitmaker on the North American leg of the Miss Possessive Tour, and after the final show in September, she shared her thoughts on both the positive feedback and the online comparisons that surfaced during the run.
She wrote on Instagram alongside photos from the tour: "It’s a wrap on Miss Possessive tour! @tatemcrae thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your stage with me and my girls every night. I can’t explain how much I’ve appreciated the opportunity to give the people a little taste of a Zara set. I’m speechless at the amount of praise I’ve been getting over these past few weeks from your wonderful fans and online. With that being said, it’s been strange seeing some people putting us against each other when we’re just two pop girls who love and support each other back stage! (sic)"
Zara also spoke glowingly about Tate and the entire touring team, making it clear she will “always have [her] back.”
She added: "Not only are you insanely talented, something we all can tell from seeing you on stage every night, but you have an incredible team around you. The dancers, band, crew, team, drivers, and tech have been a joy to be around and I always feel like that says a lot about how a person works. You set the bar. You set the standard. You are a super star. Just know, I will always have your back! Thank you for this experience!!! (sic)"
