Alexander Skarsgard has shared that he was already deeply into Charli XCX’s album Brat well before the two ended up working together on a project.
The actor from Sweden joined forces with the British pop star last year on The Moment, a mockumentary that follows Charli as she grapples with fame while setting out on a worldwide tour.
In an interview with Variety, Skarsgard explained that the hugely successful 2024 record had been on heavy rotation for him long before the film opportunity appeared.
"Secretly, quietly, on my little island in Sweden, I had a 'brat summer,'" he said, nodding to the cultural wave sparked by the album.
"People always say, Oh, I'm genuinely a fan," he added, pointing out that Brat was already part of his listening habits before the mockumentary even existed. "I told Charli after we shot the movie that when they sum up the year on Spotify, she was my No. 2 most-played artist of the year."
Skarsgard later noted that the chance to collaborate with the singer behind 365 played a major role in his decision to take part in The Moment, where he portrays a self important director named Johannes.
"What I love about Charli as an artist is that she is not afraid to show her own flaws and insecurities," he said. "That's what makes her very brave."
Charli returned the praise during the same interview, explaining that after seeing his work in films such as The Northman and Infinity Pool, "It just seemed clear to me that he was a pretty fearless person who also had an understanding of pop culture and a great sense of humour and I was totally right!"
The Moment, which is helmed by Aidan Zamiri, is scheduled to arrive in U.K. cinemas on 20 February.
