Kanye West has been accused of striking a man during an incident at a well known hotel in Los Angeles.
The altercation is said to have taken place at Chateau Marmont, a venue long linked with the city’s celebrity scene.
Based on a legal complaint obtained by People magazine, West, who is also known as Ye, reportedly approached a man seated in the hotel’s garden area at around 11pm on April 16, 2024.
The filing claims that, without any warning, West hit the man "in the face", and the lawsuit, submitted on Monday, accuses the Bully artist of battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
The individual, referred to only as John Doe, says the impact caused him to fall, stating that "he hit his head and lost consciousness". It is further alleged that West continued to strike him while he was unconscious on the ground.
Doe maintains he did nothing to trigger the situation and alleges that in the days after the incident, the rapper "falsely accused" him of "engaging in offensive and inappropriate conduct toward a woman" who was part of West’s group, according to the complaint.
In remarks shared with People, Doe’s attorney said, "The complaint speaks for itself, and the reason we filed it under John Doe is that we wanted to give anonymity to the parties and see if the matter could be resolved confidentially in mediation."
