Spotify and Billboard Japan are teaming up for a brand new live event called “Women In Music — EQUAL STAGE,” a concert spotlighting some of the most exciting women artists in Japan across multiple genres. The event is scheduled for June 9 at SGC Hall Ariake in Tokyo as part of MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN WEEK. Performers for the inaugural showcase include dance pop group ATARASHII GAKKO!, rappers Awich and LANA, along with rock duo Hitsujibungaku.
The concert combines two major initiatives focused on supporting women in music. Billboard Japan launched Women In Music in 2022 to recognize women making an impact through their work while promoting a more inclusive future across the industry. Spotify’s EQUAL program, introduced globally in 2021, was created to help increase opportunities and visibility for women artists and creators around the world. Together, the two platforms are bringing those goals to life through this special one night event featuring artists from different corners of the Japanese music scene.
TV Asahi announcer Chie Honma has been confirmed as the event’s MC.
EQUAL STAGE is part of the larger MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN WEEK celebration, a series of concerts and special events leading into MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN, which is recognized as the country’s biggest international music awards show. Additional details about MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN WEEK are available online.
Every artist appearing on the EQUAL STAGE lineup is also featured on Spotify’s official EQUAL Japan playlist.
