Fusing pop and hip-hop with an essence of soul, JonPaul Wallace is shaking up the contemporary music scene with a sound uniquely his own. Years ago, the artist captivated audiences with his version of Lukas Graham’s “7 Years,” and quickly pivoted to create a buzz around his original music, including his recent single, “Love’s Not for Everyone.”
This time, JonPaul is excited to share his newest single, “Heartbeat.” Upbeat and laced with heartfelt lyrics and an impressive vocal delivery, “Heartbeat” is sure to make its way into your summer playlist for 2022.
JonPaul Wallace’s dedication to music goes beyond passion. The artist is constantly prepared for spontaneous ideas and jots them down on the go. Inspiration is hardly an inconvenience—even when it may come at less than ideal times. In fact, JonPaul finds time to write, record, or create in some way, shape, or form every day. “It starts with a concept or lyric and then I’ll write music behind it. Or if I’m feeling uninspired, I’ll find the instrumentals and vibe first,” says the artist of his creation process.
His second single this year—written circa 2020, released on February 22, and produced by Matt Geroux and Frankie Jason Turner—tells the story of JonPaul’s then-recent experience with heartbreak. About a month out of a long relationship, the artist caved into his need for self-expression (even though he avoided writing cheesy break-up songs at the time). Luckily, the song is anything but cheesy. It is a tale of struggling with the change in routine that follows the end of a relationship. “From how you spend holidays to what you do when you wake up and the last thing you do before you go to bed—it’s the little things that change. And when you encounter those changes, they pull you back into the emotions,” explains JonPaul for the reasoning behind the music.
“Holding on to the rhythm of your heartbeat.” The song’s punchy chorus pulls you in to a captivating storyline that anyone who has experienced heartache can empathize with. Other notable snippets include, You’re going through the motions and I can barely breathe.” As JonPaul describes the song’s message, “It’s about the disruption in daily rhythm. I like this song as a contrast to ‘Love’s Not For Everyone’ because it comes off as the same emotions but with a different feel. It’s reflective of how we feel going through this emotions. There is down time and there’s the hustle and bustle and really feeling it.”
This year has already started strong for the artist, who is focusing on releasing new singles with a steady pace. But it’s not just his new music that is being heard near and far—just this past week, his song, “Here We Go,” was played on the CBS broadcast of March Madness. “It was really cool,” says the artist of the moment a friend nudged him to watch. “I wasn’t watching—I was getting ready for Nashville. Then sure enough, it was my first time hearing it on TV.”
We’re not surprised, honestly. With the vocal and lyrical skills of an established artist, JonPaul is ready to take the spotlight—and we’re here for it.
