NEW YORK – It took only one week for "Brooklyn Baby/Did Me Bad" to reach 2.6M + streams on SoundCloud.
The lyrics hit listeners on a whole new level, and it became something much more than just another single track online. Not only was it a new-age sound in the world of Hip-Hop – where R&B meets Eastside Rap and Down South Trap – it was a message to its artist, Sxint Peter, that his story of betrayal from a broken relationship was heard … and fans were thirsty for more.
“When I started to make this song, I was in an emotional place,” Sxint Peter said. “It’s from a perspective not many talk about – usually it’s the woman who’s the victim. I felt like my story was something people could relate to, and it’s a topic I could shine some light on. A lot of my music is going to be real – from real situations in my life … Being an artist and being a father is super difficult. I’m not perfect but I’m here to make music and change the world.”
This music-making mission was always in clear view for this artist, born as Hugo Montrose in Harlem, New York. At a young age, he started writing poetry and oftentimes found inspiration emanating from his big brother’s room.
“My brother was a D.J., and I would listen to the ways he would mix songs together,” Sxint Peter said. “We started experimenting with different sounds and I knew recording music was what I wanted to do, and I knew I had the skillset and the cadence to make it happen.”
Coupled with a talent in piano, Sxint Peter dedicated his hard work and passion in his education at The Juilliard School and graduated in 2005 with a degree in music theory and composition. From there, he spent years building relationships in the music industry as a well sought-after writer. He has contributed his work to many artists such as G Eazy, Rotimi, Jaquae as well as for projects that have featured A Boogie, Dave East, Justine Valentine and more. His songs contain features from Bill Board top charters A-Boogie, Dave East, Remy Boy Monty, Eric Bellinger, Justina Valentine, Jadakiss to spotlight artists J.R. and Chris Rivers, son of deceased Hip-Hop legend, Big Pun.
“That’s one of my passions – I love to write for artists,” Sxint Peter said. “To hear a story they’ve been through and then express it for them – I just love it. And that’s for all artists – the female rapper world is on the rise. A lot are coming out in the game. I just love music and giving my talent to the industry and sharing it with the world.”
Now this classically trained artist is ready to share his own music, teamed up with New King Multimedia Group and manager Anthony Brown. "Brooklyn Baby/Did me Bad" was produced by DJ Swanqo – the same producer of Cardi B's hit single "Up" – and what sold Sxint Peter to the beat was that classic piano sound.
“We are as a team gonna make a lot of noise this year,” Sxint Peter said. “These guys are hungry and definitely gonna make it in the industry.”
After such a successful launch of his first hit single, the sky’s the limit for Sxint Peter – and he says that sky looks P.U.R.P.L.E.
“It’s my mantra and it stands for ‘Pinned Up Realities Painting Life Experiences,’” he said. “You’re gonna see a lot of purple with my work. I love the color and what it signifies – royalty, power and ambition.”
In a couple months, Sxint Peter expects to drop the rest of his EP – “It’s Always Something.” With a thoughtful compilation of seriousness as well as upbeat club tunes, Sxint Peter says listeners can expect more relatable, meaningful music that has the capacity to withstand the test of time.
“’It’s Always Something’ is a relatable phrase and true to me,” he said. “No matter how successful I am or how many accolades I achieve, there’s always gonna be something. A task, a hurdle – no matter how happy someone can be, life will present a challenge. It’s up to you to face it and get through it. I’m excited to share this – I’m gonna tell my story the way I can tell it. I want listeners to feel my authenticity and know they got somebody to talk to musically … You’re gonna hear more piano and classical fusion cause I’m not afraid to test the waters. While everyone else is doing the same thing, I want to go against the grain and do what’s next.”
